Mailserver IPv6 Upgrade

I’ve completed installing patched versions of Qmail, tcpserver and Courier IMAP to support IPv6 so now both of my mailservers support v6.

  1. Hi,

I used the qmail-jms1 combined patch set. I found the link to it here:

However, this site seems to be dead at the moment. You should, however, be able to get it from here:

To enable incoming IPv6 connections, you also need to patch ucspi-tcp and ucspi-ssl. Patches available from the same site. You then need to change the listen address to ensure it listens on v6 and v4 addresses (host option to tcpserver). I accomplished by changing “” (listen all ipv4 interfaces) to “0” (listen all interfaces).

I use Gentoo. There is a ebuild for qmail-jms1 as well as patched ebuilds for ucspi-tcp and ucspi-ssl in the overlay. I believe this overlay is maintained by the same Brandon Turner who owns the site in my first link.

    Hope this helps.

If I can assist further please drop me a message. Let me know how you get on.

  2. So, i’ve now tested the patch that glenstewart suggested and it works, so i’m working on rolling this patch into the ebuild for Gentoo, then I can switch back to netqmail patched with this ipv6 patch.

  3. Cool – I’ve put the patch into production for the past few weeks, and see no issues so far. It didn’t apply smoothly, so that was a little fun. Unless you do, I’ll try to get the patch back to the Netqmail folks for future incorporation.

    1. I also had issues with the patch. I’m still working on it as I now have the patch applying cleanly from a custom ebuild but there seems to be some unknown issue with accepting mail that i have not tracked down yet. I’ve been a bit busy with other things for the past couple of weeks; I need to get back to this one. I need to get this to work really as the qmail-spp patch does not work with the qmail-jms1 ebuild i’m using and I need to get SPP back really.

  4. I’ve since found there is a Better Way (TM) to do this. Check out Qsmtp – it’s a replacement for qmail-smtp and qmail-remote. It has full IPv6 support and several advanced anti-spam features. It brings qmail into this century without a shedload of patches.

    Check it out here:
